Mission

Take Back the Night protest

The Women and Gender Office strives to cultivate a supportive, safe, and affirming environment for women, all genders, and gender equity allies in the ECU community.

Values

We approach our work through these guiding values:

  • Advocacy- We believe that people make culture and we empower students, faculty, and staff to be agents of change. The WGO provides support to members of the ECU community serving as catalysts for community engagement and social justice centered on women and gender issues.
  • Celebration- We celebrate the achievements and successes of women-identified members of the community and gender equity allies, build an egalitarian and supportive community, and foster a culture of lifting each other up.
  • Education- We provide intentional opportunities for transformative learning through events, trainings, workshops, and student advisement on gender issues.

Welcome Letter

WGO Meet and Speak group shot

Welcome! The Women and Gender Office was founded in Fall 2018 with the location in the new Main Campus Student Center opening in January 2019. The WGO was founded as a result of the leadership, dedication, and hard work of various campus constituents for several years including the former Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Women, Gender Studies, Student Involvement & Leadership, students, and many other campus constituents. We are thrilled to positively impact ECU through our guiding values of advocacy, celebration, and education as we strive to cultivate an environment where all genders are welcome, valued, and heard.

I invite you to join us during this exciting time by getting involved. There are a variety of opportunities for students, faculty and staff to make their mark in the office and on campus. Please visit our Get Involved page for more details.
